1. Get on the VIP list
We all hate spam mail but early alerts from recruiters and job sites can help you get first sight of that all-important job. Subscribe to vacancies notifications in your preferred field so you don’t miss out.
2. Job-winning CV
Check that your CV is up-to-date and ready to go.
If you’re applying for a job in a different sector or role, really draw out those transferable skills that demonstrate you have the knowhow and attitude to thrive in the job.
3. Be a brainbox
Make the most of online training to help you upskill or reskill. The Skills Toolkit website has free, high quality digital and numeracy courses from a range of providers such as Google Digital Garage, Open University and the Lloyds Bank Academy website.
4. Network, network, network (remotely)
If you haven’t got one already, set up a LinkedIn profile. Ensure you have your settings so recruiters know you’re looking for opportunities so they can reach out to you.
5. Hang out at the fair
There are some great virtual careers fairs taking place which can build contacts and give you face time with employers. Just remember that looking smart still counts.
6. Squeaky-clean social profile
Look through your own social media and check there’s nothing you wouldn’t be happy for a potential employer to see.
7. Go easy on yourself
Times are tough, we’re stuck indoors and putting yourself out there and applying for jobs can take its toll — this is normal. It can feel relentless but putting the hard yards in now will pay off in the end.
